Julianna Abel

Benjamin Mayhugh Assistant Professor

Dr. Julianna Abel is a Benjamin Mayhugh Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Abel earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. She is a MnDRIVE Robotics, Sensors, and Advanced Manufacturing (RSAM) Faculty, a 2016 NASA Glenn Research Center Faculty Fellow, 2019 Toyota Programmable Structures Innovation Fellow, and a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award. Her research combines innovative design processes and advanced manufacturing techniques with material and structural modeling to lay the scientific foundation necessary for the rigorous design of multifunctional yarns and textiles.
